Collecting Collecting what is owned require considerable patience and diplomatic tact. Think of collecting as playing a game. Few people like to mix games and business but here is a place where they are forced to play one. It is a chess game in which the business person must work out their moves in advance. One of the most popular games is the "communications game.”Their strategy is to be as vague as possible over the terms of a transaction. Having honed their argumentative skills they can be very persuasive to a court. They know appearances and stage the exploitations in a way that makes them look good. So the first move in this game is to force a clarification of the terms until the client unmistakably understand the terms. If the business person does not, all they have is their emotions to defend their position. Collecting money is one of the most unpleasant aspects
of business. It can be a real test of a business person's ability and
character. The problem here is that a percentage of clients in particular
business are laying in wait to take advantage of a business. A common
tactic is for them to emotionally jerk the business person around until
they make an exploitable error. Some people lean powerful manipulative
techniques at a very early age. By the time the unsuspecting business
person meets them the cunning client has a well-planned strategy to
exploit the business person's emotion for financial gain. This why
business most always be done in a business like way. To follow business
codes and ethics is to remove one from danger in the marketplace. |
