Buying Time When a business is overwhelmed they "buy time" with various excuses. They are faced with the choice of telling the client what the “hold up” is or to give them a cover story to placate them. If they tell the client too much they run the risk of losing their business in the future. Running even a small business can be a complex undertaking requiring considerable coordination of events. When coordination is lost all clients are affected. One major problem running a business is the delivery of the wrong parts or products. Another major source of delay is dealing with a "problem" client. Problem clients believe the world revolves around them. Some of these people can be "powerfully manipulative" forcing the business person to alter their schedule to fit their needs. Please note: when a business is mismanaged the owners or managers will automatically side with the employees when a customer complains. To a mismanaged business people who have legitimate complaints might be considered "problem clients." This use of the word is not intended here.
